READ IT Course “digital storytelling and booktrailer production”
Who is the target group?Secondary school teachers and students from Denmark, Italy, Romania, Scotland and Turkey.
What is the purpose of the course?READ IT course aims at developing teachers’ skills and practice through the inclusion of ICT tools and digital storytelling techniques in classroom practice; specifically to produce booktrailers as a means of promoting engagement with reading and writing.

learn new teaching methods and best practices to engage students with reading, writing and literature
acquire knowledge and develop skills and confidence related to using and integrating pedagogical and digital tools in their teaching methods and/or habits
experiment with and evaluate the educational use of digital storytelling and booktrailer with students
Prerequisites for taking the courseTo participate in the READ IT course, applicants must:
be a secondary school teacher in Denmark, Italy, Romania, Scotland or Turkey
have at least an Intermediate level of English
teach classes whose age-range is 14 – 17 years old (selection factor for the class projects stage)
have at least Basic ICT skills
teach English/Danish/Italian/Romanian/Turkish Language /Humanities subjects
How is the course delivered?READ IT course is composed of two linked stages: an Online Course for teachers and a Class Project.
The successfully completion of the course means both completion of all online training modules and application of the newly acquired knowledge in a class project in the same school year.
The Online Course consists of 6 modules and it is designed to take up to 30 hours. It will take place between late January/February 2012 and March 2012 in all partner countries. Upon completion of the modules of the online course teachers will take the newly acquired skills and knowledge into the classroom. As part of their training, teachers will coordinate the production of a booktrailer in one of their classes. To this end they will undertake a Class Project of 12 hours (10 hours of effective class time + 2 hours of final reflection). The age range of the student target group is between 14 – 17 years old. Teachers may work with a class of 14 years olds or a class of 17 year olds or any combination that works best in their school. Class projects will be planned to take place between 1st April and 31st May 2012. By 15th June 2012, teachers will upload the products of their class projects, the booktrailers, together with their comments, reflections and ideas to the learning platform. This will mark their completion of the last Module in the online course and their participation in the READ IT training.

Module E: Own production
Each participant will produce a booktrailer in order to motivate his/her students to read and reflect on a poem, a short story, novel, or other form of creative writing. The module will allow teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of their learning within previous modules.
Module F: Didactic summary and perspectives
The overall aim of this module is to support teachers’ reflections on their experience in producing booktrailer(s) in connection with the course, the didactic potential of students producing book trailers to increase their motivation to read and write, and other teaching possibilities of the use of booktrailers.
LanguageAll course materials are in English but storyboards of the video lessons available both in English and all the native languages. National groups of teachers are moderated by national coordinators and tutors who communicate in their native languages. Participants will also partake in some transnational activities and reflection in English.
